Instead of "live laugh love" or "home is where the heart is" my (wonderful, progressive, very accepting) dad put up the racism sign in the foyer
whats the racism sign?
The racism sign, as I like to call it, is from an art piece I made halfway through my first semester of art school:
It reads "any attempted theft will be reported to the police" in the 15 most commonly spoken languages by immigrants here other than English or other western european languages (in descending order).
This sign was only half of the art piece, the other half was the most stereotypically Icelandic painting I could think of:
When the piece was shown the painting and the sign were hung on opposite sides of the room, making the sign more of an afterthought for those who don't speak any of the languages written on the sign. Standing out just enough for them to notice it and maybe wonder what it said, but ultimately not giving it a second thought for the most part.
I wanted to highlight one of the most common ways racism and xenophobia present themselves here as well as the comfort of ignorance. The sign doesn't cater to you, you ignore it it, and you don't care what it might say. You don't have to think about it because it doesn't affect you.
For those who can read the sign though, or bother to translate it, this is just yet another reminder of people's ignorance and double standards. My inspiration for this piece came from my old workplace, where they had this sign hanging on one of the doors:
The main things that stood out about this to me were that
- It was the only sign on the premises written in anything other than Icelandic and/or English
- All of the additional languages (Vietnamese, Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian) specifically targeted minority groups that already face discrimination here
- The location of the sign. We only had 1 of these, and they chose to put it up somewhere where only staff would see it rather than the customers. In fact, it was right next to the break room so you had to walk past it every time you went on break. And it was a sign reminding people not to steal. Big win for inclusivity here
People love saying that we're not racist/xenophobic here even though we very much are. The problem is just that so many people don't take the time to look when it doesn't directly affect them. I was very happy with my piece because people actually came up to me and asked what the sign said because they wanted to know, it started a conversation and made those previously unaware of this issue more aware. I wonder if these sorts of signs would be anywhere near as commonplace as they are if more people looked at them critically and asked "why is this the thing we bother translating?"
Anyway, all that aside I love my dad and I like the way this art piece turned out but also I am slightly worried about giving people the wrong idea when this is the first thing they see when they enter our home 💀
'Gimme some!'
I love how this person rubbed the kitty's face with the back of their hands, so they wouldn't get stuff on the kitty. T_T So gentle and caring. I love when kitties mirror.
I made this post before there were polls on tumblr, so I figure why not remake it as a poll now?
People with ADHD, how were you diagnosed?
self diagnosis/not professionally diagnosed yet
Cognitive Psychologist Testing/Evaluation
Neurological Testing (e.g. EEG, PET, SPECT, MRI, NEBA, etc.)
Neuropsychological Assessment
Computerized Test (e.g. TOVA, MOXO CPT, Conners’ CPT 3rd Edition, IVA CPT, QbTes
Psychiatric Evaluation (e.g. DIVA)
multiple of these, it was a process
something else (add in tags?)
it happened when I was so young, I can't even guess what method was used, no ide
I don't have adhd, I'm just curious and can't resist pressing a button sorry
please feel free to add in the tags whether you think this was a good experience or not (i.e. would you recommend this method to someone who is pursuing a diagnosis? if you were diagnosed as a child, would you recommend that method to a parent who is seeking accommodations for their kid? if it was a bad experience- what would you recommend instead or what guidance might you offer?)
"A net-zero power system is closer than we think.
New research, published by RMI, indicates that an exponential surge in renewable energy deployment is outpacing the International Energy Agency’s most ambitious net-zero predictions for 2030.
That’s right: Surging solar, wind, and battery capacity is now in-line with net-zero scenarios.
“For the first time, we can, with hand on heart, say that we are potentially on the path to net zero,” Kingsmill Bond, Senior Principal at RMI, said. “We need to make sure that we continue to drive change, but there is a path and we are on it.”
And that’s really good news.
Exponential growth in renewable energy has put the global electricity system at a tipping point. What was once seen as a wildly daunting task — transitioning away from fossil fuels — is now happening at a faster pace every year.
Based on this new research, conducted in partnership with the Bezos Earth Fund, RMI projects that solar and wind will supply over a third of all global electricity by 2030, up from about 12% today, which would surpass recent calls for a tripling of total renewable energy capacity by the end of the decade.
Global progress in the renewable energy sector
China and Europe have been leading the way in clean energy generation, but the deployment of renewable energy has also been widely distributed across the Middle East and Africa.
Research from Systems Change Lab shows that eight countries (Uruguay, Denmark, Lithuania, Namibia, Netherlands, Palestine, Jordan, and Chile) have already grown solar and wind power faster than what is needed to limit global warming to 1.5°C, proving that a swift switch to renewable energy is not only feasible — it’s entirely achievable.
In order to make that switch, globally, wind and solar need to grow from 12% to 41% by 2030. Denmark, Uruguay, and Lithuania have already achieved that increase in the span of eight years.
Meanwhile, Namibia, the Netherlands, Palestine, Jordan, and Chile have grown solar and wind energy at sufficient rates for five years...
The economic impact of climate progress
Not only is this an exciting and unprecedented development for the health of the environment, but this rapid transition to clean energy includes widespread benefits, like jobs growth, more secure supply chains, and reductions in energy price inflation.
This progress spans both developing and developed countries, all driven to accelerate renewables for a number of different reasons: adopting smart and effective policies, maintaining political commitments, lowering the costs of renewable energy, and improving energy security.
And with exponential growth of clean energy means sharp declines in prices. This puts fossil fuels at a higher, uncompetitive cost — both financially and figuratively.
RMI suggests that solar energy is already the cheapest form of electricity in history — and will likely halve in price by 2030, falling as low as $20/MWh in the coming years. This follows previous trends: solar and battery costs have declined 80% between 2012 and 2022, and offshore wind costs are down 73%."

Let me repeat that:
For the first time in history, we are on an actual, provably achievable path to net zero emissions
my stupid fucking aunt loraine bought us an air friar for our wedding present 🤦♀️ the apartments barely big enough for the two of us now weve got this dumb asshole flying around preaching at us ... every time i get a migraine he tries to give me herbs and poultices 🙄
Nana Visitor MADE the ds9 mirrorverse episode. She so perfectly hit the balance of In Charge and Spoiled Princess.
Mirrorverse!Kira is such a good example of "mirrorverse" rather than "evil". She's an inversion of Kira: She happily owns slaves instead of fighting for freedom, she uses her soft voice first to get what she wants before resorting to violence, instead of leaping into fights but being vulnerable when things matter, she is ultimately deeply alone and unsure of herself whereas our Kira has confronted a lot of her demons and has an incredibly strong sense of self.
It's just. SO good!
Horny too.
Someone add screenshots from when he spent a whole episode dunking on the British royals and calling for the abolition of the monarchy
no idea who this is. just reblogging because someone telling mike pence to "eat shit fuckface" is hilarious to me.

I love there's a second and third set of walls so it's got the ancient Atlantis ringed islands design.
I think this make sense if you consider the Earth to actually be n-dimensional space of which the inner ring exists within a 3-dimensional subspace. The "ice walls" in fact all merge at the south pole, and if you travel through the pole on a 3+x dimensional axis you emerge (instantaneously) at any point on the outer ring of the ice walls. This same dynamic would play out on the mountain ring - which presumably all converge at a mountain taller than any man has yet conceived, its peaks lost in the clouds yet somehow not visible from space. The final waste rings themselves have realities, just ones beyond the dimensional capabilities of current humans to map, and so are thus perceived as endlessly undifferentiated matter of a type connected to its added dimensionality.
Obviously this world isn't flat by any definition but flat earthers are idiots, what ya gonna do.
Unironically this is the sort of thing that Flat Earth end up theorizing. If you pre-suppose a flat earth, you end up having to explain more astrophysics with increasingly bizarre explanations.
My personal favorite being "the sun is a torous with a black hole in the center, which warps it's light like a cone, causing a spotlight effect as it shines on the earth, and this is why it can be day in New York but night in Hong Kong.
Going to add a maybe controversial thing but:
Women who are attracted to men but also don't like penetrative sex - and I'm definitely + explicitly + it's very much the point including vaginal penetrative sex here - are also perfectly within their rights to have that boundary and to have it respected.
Straight or bisexual women, cis or trans women, doesn't matter - I feel like womanhood is often equated with enjoying penetration. But it's not. Your identity doesn't dictate what you like sexually. And what you like sexually doesn't dictate your identity.
And I think especially for women who are attracted to men, enjoying penetrative sex is considered such a must that many of us don't even question it - to the point that a) not wanting it is considered a medical issue by itself and b) with many medical complications or conditions or even psychological reasons that someone might find vaginal penetration painful, the first concern is often not even to fix the underlying issue or even to make that kind of sex pleasurable - but to make her "functional" for her partner again. (Prized example: The husband-stitch. Generally, I hear so often from women whose partners got impatient with their recovery after they gave birth and who felt pressured to have vaginal sex before they felt like it.)
So I just want to say:
Womanhood does not equal enjoying penetration.
Being AFAB doesn't equal enjoying penetration.
Being attracted to men doesn't equal enjoying penetration.
What you enjoy sexually is not a matter of your identity. It's only a matter of what you enjoy and what you and your partner(s) genuinely want to do.
And actually, yes, this specifically goes out to heterosexual cis women in particular: Even if you never ever ever want to have vaginal penetrative sex - that's perfectly fine. You are perfectly within your rights to have that boundary. And no man has any right to force you. And calling you "uptight" or "vanilla" or "weird" or "but you own a dildo" or "It'll be good with me, I swear!" - that's a way of forcing you. He has two options a) accept your boundary and find a different way to have sex b) accept your boundary and go home.
If there is an underlying medical issue like cysts or if you have vaginismus that diminishes your quality of life - of course I recommend seeing a doctor. And if you have experienced trauma, I recommend therapy. All of which should be focussed on helping you with the things that you deem important - and not what your partner or a potential partner deems important.
But if you simply just don't want to have penetrative sex - then don't. Nothing is wrong with you. No one has any right to force you.
We often say "don't do anal if you don't want to", "don't do oral if you don't want to" - and those are very, very true! But I feel like we don't say "don't do vaginal if you don't want to" or "don't have penetrative sex at all if you don't want to" often enough to women - because it's such an expectation that everyone would enjoy it.
And also, you don't owe anyone an explanation. Sometimes, trauma is a reason - but if you have experienced trauma, you're not obligated to tell your partner the details of it to justify not wanting to have that kind of sex. "No" is a full sentence. Sometimes the fear of pregnancy or contraception failing is a reason - and that's also to be respected.
And if you don't have any reason related to trauma or a medical condition - you're still perfectly within your rights to have that boundary respected. Sex is supposed to feel good for both partners involved. And any partner who doesn't care about your boundaries or pressures you - is for the streets. Gotta go. Is an ex. Shoo. Out. Over.
